“Vehicle Inspection Draft”: JD 100 to Review Each Importer’s Application and JD 30 to Verify Vehicle Compliance

Al-Taj News – Acting Director General of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, Wafaa Al-Momani, said that draft instructions prepared by the organization propose collecting JD 100 for reviewing an application for approval of a vehicle model, in addition to JD 30 for inspecting one vehicle upon actual importation to verify its compliance with the approved model.

Al-Momani added that the draft was published with the aim of communicating with the entities concerned and those involved in the sector, obtaining their comments, and discussing them directly before the instructions are adopted.

She explained that the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization began monitoring electric vehicles in mid-2024, before the instructions were later expanded to include all types of vehicles, whether gasoline-powered or hybrid vehicles.

She noted that since then, the organization has been reviewing all applications submitted to it and certificates related to vehicles, whether European, American, Gulf, or Saudi, and granting approval or rejecting the application based on whether the requirements are met, without charging fees for these services so far.

Al-Momani said that the proposed fee of JD 100 would be collected for reviewing the application for approval of the vehicle model, verifying the documents and their accuracy and validity, and ensuring that the required conditions are met.

She stressed that the application for a model is reviewed only once for the same importer, and after obtaining approval, the importer can import an unlimited number of vehicles of the same model without having to review the application again and pay JD 100 each time.
